What our amazing GAL Volunteers are saying ...
“My job usually entails a lot of paperwork. Volunteering as a GAL gives me the opportunity to step away from that and interact with children at points in their lives when they so desperately need the presence of an adult who is there only to look after their best interest. Popping into a childs life for such a short period of time may seem like an insignificant thing, but to some of them, it makes all the difference in the world.
In my most recent case, by working with an appointed DCS case worker, we were able to get a family back together under one roof, and get the services and programs in place to give them the tools they needed to succeed. The appointment to help just one child, affected, in a positive way, the entire family (and extended family). The time commitment is minimal, and the need is great. It is decidedly one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences of my life.
It doesn’t take a lot of extra training, or a background in social work or law. It does take a heart for children and their families and a willingness to maybe step outside your box, give up a couple of hours of t.v. a month, and get involved (even briefly) in someone else’s life. It may not sound like much, but the rewards are immeasurable.”

"I have to say every experience I have had with this program is eye opening. I have been so fortunate in my own life, so it's a catch 22 most of the time because you feel terrible for the situations that have arisen for these kids, but in the end, it feels good to be a part of a program that gives back and helps people who really need it. It certainly puts my life's problems into perspective. . ."
