About Us
The Marion County Juvenile Court Volunteer Guardian ad Litem program serves youth who have been referred to the court on delinquency matters. Our program is a little bit different than the traditional CASA/GAL role in that our GAL volunteers usually only volunteer on juvenile delinquency cases. The General Public normally associates Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) and GALs with cases involving child abuse or neglect. In Marion County, Indiana, Child Advocates Inc. is the agency assigned by the Marion County Juvenile Court to serve the child advocacy needs of Child in Need of Services (CHINS) cases. That said, sometimes youth experiencing juvenile delinquency matters also have been victims of child abuse/neglect.
The Marion County Juvenile Court volunteer GAL program is made possible only by the very generous contributions of service and time given by Community Volunteers who sincerely care about children and are passionate about making a positive difference in a child's life. We've truly been blessed to have some of the most gifted and compassionate members of the Indianapolis Community serve on our child advocacy team.
Our program also would not be possible if it weren't for the outstanding volunteer GAL training provided by Cindy Booth, Executive Director of Child Advocates, Inc. and for the numerous lawyer referrals provided by Caren Chopp, Pro Bono and Legal Services Coordinator, Indianapolis Bar Association.
